Intercessory prayer
… When he entered Capernaum, the centurion turned to him and pleaded with him, saying: "Lord, my servant lies paralyzed at home and suffers a lot ". Jesus said to him: "I will come and heal him". But the centurion replied: "Lord, I am not worthy, that you would come under my roof, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed. And me, though I am under authority, I have soldiers underneath me. I say it: "Go" - and he goes; the other: "Come here" - and he comes; a słudze: "Do it" - and it does ". When Jesus heard it, he was surprised and said to these, którzy szli za Nim: "Truly I say to you: I have not found such great faith in anyone in Israel. But I tell you: Many will come from East and West and sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven ".
This Gospel passage speaks, among other things, about the importance of intercessory prayer. Jesus heals the centurion's servant, without following the cry of it, who "lies paralyzed at home and suffers a lot", but listening to someone else's request. Shell we, and we should even, intercede with Jesus for these, we know about, that they need such a prayer, who ask for such a prayer, because - as St.. Jakub - “… a prayer full of faith will save the sick and the Lord will raise him up, and if he had committed sins, they will be forgiven. " (Jk 5,15).
One of the conditions for the effectiveness of this prayer is faith in God's power, which is not limited or limited by time, nor space. After all, Jesus does not go to the centurion's house. He can heal in a moment of prayer, but healing may also come after a while, then, when the Lord sees fit. There are places, where miracles happen especially often, which doesn't mean they can't happen everywhere, where two or three will ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Ten, took place somewhere in the city, we would say in the street.
The Lord is also no respecter of persons. They are chosen by Him, gifted with the charism of healing, famous for it, that the Lord makes use of them, working miracles. But it may as well do them, using each of us, no matter how old you are, How do you look, how long have you been in service to Him, with what words you pray. He may even use a pagan, for the centurion was certainly not a charismatic healer. His request was not made on his lap, and it was very brief, though exceptionally beautiful, because in a slightly transformed form it permanently entered the liturgy of the Church.
It is Jesus who heals, not people. When he wants to, where and how he wants. Just like two thousand years ago, when he heard the centurion's request made in faith for his neighbor, yes and he listens today, helping, giving, healing, working miracles.
Because Jesus is alive!
